Oxford Mail XC League 2006 - Race 3 - Radley College, Sunday 31st December 2006: Very well done to everyone who took part in this race. A course that had its fair share of river crossings and with much of the course very muddy and slippery underfoot, conditions were not the easiest. The promised storms held off for the race, but there was a strong headwind. A high quality turnout meant a competitive race for both the ladies and the men. Particular congratulations to Nigel Marley for putting in a stunning performance in his first run for the club. Ladies Race (approx 4.9k) Rachael Elliott (S) 21:41, 11th Mens Race (approx 8.2k) Nigel Marley (S) 31:39, 10th Full race results can be found here. Rachael Elliott has provided photos of the race here. If you would like to add some more photos to hers (especially of the Ladies Race) please email her. Last Chance 10K, Exeter, Sunday 31 December 2006: Massive congratulations to Bridget for a new PB on a very windy course! 497 finishers. Bridget Mold 62:55 pb, 426th Aylesbury Boxing Day 5k, Tuesday 26th December 2006: A mince pie burning three-lap course of Aylesbury town centre. Tour de Trigs, Saturday/Sunday 2nd/3rd December 2006: Congratulations to Jon Burgess, Andi Hucker and Garin Wilby who, competing as “The Alchester Amblers”, completed the gruelling 52.5 mile course (55 miles when you add in getting lost!) in just over 17 hours and came in 3rd out of 98 teams. With only five hours of daylight and no idea of the route until 30 minutes before the start (which is plotted from map references) the vast majority was off-road on North Oxfordshire’s muddiest and remotest footpaths. They finished at 4.30am! Eynsham 10k, Sunday 26th November 2006: Another impressive club turnout, with more good performances and another clutch of PBs. Well done to Victoria England, Julie Trinder and Bridget Mold who made their club debuts. The ladies performed especially well, with Rachael, Liz and Catherine also taking the bronze medals in the Oxfordshire County 10k Championships. We also await confirmation of the Oxon Grand Prix series where it appears we are in with a chance of third place. The men also did well, with no less than five runners getting over the line in less than 40 minutes. Andi

This, however, was not enough to deter Alchester members from donning their XC spikes: a very large club turnout saw great team and individual performances from both the ladies and the men and a highly enjoyable time was had by all. The ladies' race (138 finishers) was just over 3 miles and the men's race (280 finishers) just over 5 miles. Ladies Race. Individual: Mens Race.
