| Oxford Mail XC League – Race 3 - Banbury, Sunday 30th December 2007: Positions given are overall, not by age category. Ladies Race (120 ran): Angela Banks, 23.42, 26th Mens Race (221 ran): Richard Gould, 37.18, 38th Hooky Christmas Canter - Sunday, 16th December 2007: Well done to all who took part in the inaugural running of this race, ensuring that we were able to field a considerable squad on the day. We are still awaiting confirmation of the times and details from Hook Norton Harriers, and these will follow as soon as possible. 64 runners. Positions given are overall, not by age category. Jon Burgess, MV50, 46:49, 7th Oxford Mail XC League – Race 2 - Culham, Sunday 2nd December 2007: From the edge of the valley the scene resembled the Battle of the Somme. Tents blew down in the hurricane-force winds and torrential rain felt like needles on the skin. It was pure pleasure and thanks to all Alchester runners for turning up in such atrocious conditions. There was another cracking performance from top male mud-plugger Nigel Marley, with Richard Gould continuing to force his way up the rankings. Angela Banks clearly enjoyed her first cross country outing for the club, coming in as 3rd Vet45. Special mentions for Chris Colclough, Steve Woodus and Dave Basham, who came in 51, 34 and 35 places respectively higher than at Ascott. Ladies Race (124 ran) Men’s Race (225 ran) Luton Marathon Relay, Sunday 2 December 2007: Mark Clay and Bridget Mold represented Alchester as members of two relay squads for this enjoyable way to experience a marathon event as part of a team. Each runner took on one lap (8.73 miles) of the undulating 3-lap marathon course, which was an interesting mix of urban and rural. Conditions in Bedfordshire were dreadful, with heavy rain and strong winds, although there was some sunshine later in the morning. Mark Clay, 1:06:24 Eynsham 10k - Sunday 25 November 2007: Special mentions and congratulations go to Helen Roper, the Alchester Ladies team and Angel Banks. Eynsham was the final race in this year's 13 race Oxon Grand Prix Series. Helen finished 3rd in the overall standings, a fantastic personal acheivement. The ladies team finished 2nd overall with contributions over the season from Angela Banks, Liz Grolimund, Helen Roper, Kate Watkinson, Edwina Colclough, Sarah Rendell and Julie Bennett. These are the result of consistently high performances and are made more significant by the calibre and resources of the opposition. Also, a fantastic performance from Angela Banks who finished in 42:31, a PB, a new club record, 1st place in her age category for the race and the 10k Oxfordshire County Championship. Please ensure you congratulate each and every one. 546 runners. Christopher Cassidy, 40:36, VM, 97th Full race results here. Oxford Mail XC League 2007 - Race 1 - Ascott-under-Wychwood, Sunday 4th November 2007: A beautiful autumn day for the opening XC race saw Nigel Marley finish a fantastic 5th in the men’s race, with the ever-improving Richard Gould an impressive 32nd. Liz Grolimund excelled for the ladies (27th), closely followed by Sarah Rendell and Julie Bennett. Well done to all those who were new to XC, particularly Marion Harris and Chairman Keith (who had a serene smile on his face all the way round). Also worthy of mention is the fantastic support during the men’s race by the Alchester Cheerleaders: short skirts and pom-poms next time, girls? Many thanks to Paul Harris for providing these photos, and to Rachael Elliott for providing these.
Ladies Race (154 ran)
Mens Race (253 ran) Stevenage Half Marathon, Sunday 4th November: Emily Sparrow enjoyed great weather on a pleasant two lap course through traffic free cycleways and parkland, for her debut half marathon. Great marshals and very well organised. Highly recommended Emily Sparrow, 2:13:15 Marlow Half Marathon, Sunday 4th November: Nigel Trinder came back following injury to run this distance for the first time in 3 months. Great effort! Nigel Trinder 1:42 ING Amsterdam Marathon, Sunday 21st October Congratulations to Andi and Gary on these terrific times. Andi Hucker, 2.59.25 ING Amsterdam Half Marathon, Sunday 21st October Congratulations to Paul on his PB, and a very warm welcome back to racing to Jenny! Paul Tilleard, 1:27:28 PB (247th/8463 finishers) Stroud Half Marathon, Sunday 21st October Richard Gould and Tom Bailey took on this course in Gloucestershire, both recording PBs Richard taking over 5 and a half mins of his time. Well done both! Richard Gould, 1:18:27 PB Leicester Marathon, Sunday 14th October Congratulation to Laurie Lee on a superb debut at the marathon distance. Laurie was the sole club representative at Leicester, where he enjoyed the ideal conditions and the mixed urban/rural course. Laurie Lee, 3:11:53, 70th out of 570 Hanney Five, Sunday 14th October More than twenty Alchester runners entered this race (the last Club Championship race of the season for non-marathoners), yielding some fantastic performances including a number of PBs. Worthy of special note were great PBs from Gary Clench, Richard Gould, Jon Burgess (who takes the clean sweep of club records with this effort) and Angela Banks (who also takes the 5 mile mark in her age category too). Prizes went to Jon Burgess (1st V50) and Angela Banks (2nd VL45). Well done to all who ran, especially to Ray Clench. Richard Gould, SM, 28:22, 16th overall (PB) Cardiff Half Marathon - Sunday 14th October Congratulations to Sarah Thomas on a new PB at the Cardiff Half Marathon, taking four minutes off her previous best at this distance. Sarah Thomas, SL, 2:37:16, (PB) Baxster's Loch Ness Marathon - Sunday 7th October A perfect day for running a marathon in cool sunny and windless conditions. This point-to-point course was undulating and set in the most picturesque part of the Highlands, running along the eastern loch side northwards to Inverness. A small, well-organised race with lost of extras to make this very good value for money. Mark Sandford was amongst the 1427 finishers for his debut marathon. Winning time: 2:23:17 (Zakary Kihara from Kenya). Mark Sandford 3:39:39 352nd BUPA Great North Run, Sunday 30th September Many congratulations to Nigel Marley who ran the Great North Run in a time of 1:12:55, a PB by more than 2 mins and truly outstanding achievement. Please do let us know if you also took part. Longworth 10k, Sunday 23rd September Steve Woodus and Alison Rivers represented the club at the Longworth 10k, not realising it was a multi-terrain race instead of a road race until they were on the starting line! Great performances from both, nonetheless, despite the rough terrain and the cowpats. Steve Woodus, 47:56 40th Leighton Buzzard 10 Mile Road Race, Sunday 23rd September Pleasant conditions for this scenic and undulating course on the Bedfordshire/Buckinghamshire border with a challenging hill between the 3rd and 4th mile. Emily Sparrow, 1:39:34 (10 mile debut) Woodstock 12, Sunday 16th September The start and finish point had been changed for this year but the course was otherwise the same as usual with an undulating 3 laps around Blenheim Palace grounds. Very sunny and warm (OK, hot!), the third lap in particular took its toll especially if you didn’t drink enough. Richard Gould again disappeared off into the distance, closely followed by Andi Hucker, although he suffered a bit towards the end and generously let Jon overtake him. Another great run from Liz Grolimund, who was closely followed by Kate and Helen. Nice to see Tom Digweed beginning his comeback! Richard Gould, SM, 78.30, 18th 190 finishers (43 DNF!) Experian Robin Hood Marathon, Sunday 16th September A warm day with a very tricky section, plus a very strong head wind late on the race, made this marathon a bit more of a challenge. Congratulations to Chris and Bridget on their achievement. Chris Foulkes, 4:29:50 Bristol Half Marathon - Sunday 9th September Andi Hucker represented the club at this big city marathon, which he recommends highly (apart from the price). A new course offered some highly unwelcome cobbles at 10 miles. Liz Yelling was running too (not for Alchester) and only just beat Andi, we hear! Andi Hucker, 1:25:03, 270th 8433 runners Paul Dimmock Memorial Charity 5 mile run (Leighton Buzzard), Sunday 9th September Along a yet to be opened stretch of the Leighton Linslade bypass, Emily Sparrow achieved a PB by over 1 minute. Emily Sparrow, 44:18secs, 163rd (PB) 251 runners Fit2Run Witney Cotswold Classic 10mile, Sunday 9 September Almost perfect conditions at this year's event enabled a strong Alchester team to put in great performances right through the field over the picturesque - and undulating - course. Nigel "I thought it was a 10k" Marley led the club home to an excellent 3rd place in the seniors category (5th overall). Congratulations to him, to Jon Burgess (1st in V50), Angela Banks (1st V45) on their new club records and, indeed, to everyone who took part, with a special round of applause for those club members who gave such welcome encouragement and assistance as marshalls. You lovely people, you. Nigel Marley, 56:58, SM, 5th (3rd Senior Male) 241 runners. Headington 10k, Sunday 2 September Richard Gould, 37:23, SM, 18th 326 runners Great Scottish Run (half marathon), Glasgow, Sunday 2 September Andy Cheyne, 1:33 Motavation 2007, Race 5, Oxford, Thursday 30 August Richard Gould, 23:09, SM, 27th Chicks Chase 5k, Thursday 30 August Last in the series of three women’s only runs around Caldecotte Lake in Milton Keynes Emily Sparrow, 27:33 Moulton 10k, Monday 27th August A scenic and undulating race through Northamptonshire countryside Emily Sparrow, 57:34 Burnham Beeches Half Marathon, Sunday 19th August Well done to Marion who was the sole Alchester representative at this scenic but undulating event. 916 finishers. Marion Harris, 2.13:34, 818th Wimbledon Common Time Trial, Saturday 18th August This weekly off-road 5k race is run along paths on Wimbledon Common. Weather conditions were overcast and cool for Mark Sandford, providing perfect racing conditions despite the odd soggy patch caused by overnight rain. Mark recommends this as a "great friendly free event run by volunteers which is similar, though with a smaller field, to the Bushy Park Time Trial". 67 finishers. Mark Sandford 20:58 27th Blisworth Friday 5 Mile Race, Friday 17th August It appears that Bridget Mold was the sole Alchester representative at this race. Please let us know if you were there too! Congratulations to Bridget on another PB! Bridget Mold, 45:14, (PB) Bearbrook 10k, Sunday 12th August Congratulations to all who took part, especially Nigel Marley who led the squad home with a new club record. Nigel Marley, 34:14, 4th Hook Norton "Hooky" 6 - Sunday 5th August Another hot day for a race at Hook Norton saw a large Alchester squad take on this familiar and undulating two-lap course. Gary Clench led the club home with a fine run, but there were gutsy performances right through the squad. Gary Clench, V40, 37:08, 19th 255 finishers. Full results are available from Hook Norton Harriers. Motavation - Chipping Norton - Thursday 2nd August Richard Gould, 24:40, 22nd Bushy Park 5k Time Trial - Saturday 28th July: Emily Sparrow ran at the free weekly off-road 5k event at Bushy Park in Teddington managing to beat her previous course time by just over 2 minutes. Emily Sparrow, 27:56 Heartbeat Events Chicks Chase 5k Series - Thursday 26th July: Second of three ladies-only runs around Caldecotte Lake in Milton Keynes. Emily Sparrow 27:25 (PB by 6 seconds Combe Motavation - Thursday 26th July: The rescheduled third event of the Mota-vation series at Combe proved a sucessful race for several Alchester athletes, with some creditable performances. 185 finishers Richard Gould 22:39 19th Newlands Valley Round 9k - Wednesday 25th July: Alan Smith, whilst on holiday competed in this event organised by Keswick AC. A challenging course with some severe hills both down and back up the valley just to the west of Derwent Water, the rain held off thankfully. After a very testing hill at 4 miles the last 1/2 mile was down hill allowing Alan to hold off some of those pesky fell runners! 129 runners Alan Smith 40:21 44th NSPCC Milton Keynes Half Marathon - Sunday 22nd July: Bridget Mold and Chris Foulkes managed to set PBs in this event - Well done. Chris Foulkes 1:50:46 436th New PB ! Hornton Classic 6 Mile Race, Saturday 21st July 24hrs after torrential rain 11 brave souls ventured to Hornton for the next in the Oxon Grand Prix series of races- you'd call it hilly rather than undulating! Success for the ladies with individual positions for Angela, Helen and Kate (very closely followed by Edwina we must add) and 1st ladies team overall putting them back into 2nd place in the Oxfordshire league. Some excellent performances from Andi, Laurie and Marion too. Andi Hucker, 37.54 Waddesdon 5km - Wednesday 18th July: On a very pleasent mid-week evening some Alchester runners took part in this local race. It was a tough out and back course with approx 2km being up hill heading back towards the manor house. Perfect racing weather conditions. 235 finishers. Nigel Marley 17:12 5th Yarnton 5 mile - Saturday 14th July: As it was an Oxford County Championship race it attracted some good runners from local clubs. The race was over some varied terrain including uneven pathways, gravel pits and road. It was a hot Saturday evening and the final 50 metres to the finish was over some long grass (the mower had broken down!!) on Yarnton playing fields. 156 finishers. Alan Smith 32:46 49th Leafield 10, Sunday 1st July: The second running of this hilly 10 mile race in north Oxfordshire, taking in parts of the Witney 10 course. Weather conditions were more like March than early summer, with persistent rain in the gloom of the early evening. The ford between 6 and 7 miles ensured your feet were nice and wet for the uphill finish. This did not deter three Alchester members from taking part. Congratulations to Nigel Lambert for picking up first prize in the V60 category, and to Bridget Mold for a fantastic PB, beating her previous best by no less than 11 minutes! Mark Sandford 1:14:11 (watch times) Didcot 5 , Sunday 1st July: The rain stayed away from Didcot (more or less) for this flat and fast 5-miler around Didcot's cycle tracks and paths. Keith Jones logged his fastest time of the year. Mark Clay didn't. Keith Jones. 40:44 Thame 10k, Sunday 24th June: We have the numbers but not the details, including news of any PBs ! Please contact Mark if you can help with either. Nigel Marley, 34:56, 11th 763 finishers. Kennington Fun Fun, Sunday 17th June: If you like your races small and friendly, this a race for you. Approximately 150 people took part in this local race in aid of a local charity, taking on a muddy cross-country-style 5km (-ish) course through the trails of Bagley Wood, near Oxford. Despite the "Fun Run" title, this event wasn't without its challenges, offering a rough, overgrown, undulating and frequently muddy course for runners of all standards to have a go at. Mark Clay represented Alchester. Mark Clay, 23:48, 17th Banbury 5 Mile, Tuesday 12th June: Jon Burgess, 30:45, 48th (5th V50) Mota-vation 2, Bletchingdon (4.25 miles), Thurday 7th June: This was an undulating course with a testing uphill finish. A very strong run from Richard Gould, continuing his good form. Welcome back to racing for Kate Watkinson and Sarah Thomas after spells out following injury. Richard Gould, 24:36, 33rd 302 Finishers Chiltern Chase, Sunday 3rd June: Three members headed to the picturesque village of Ewelme
for the Chiltern Chase, a multi-terrain event with a little bit of road,
fields, woods and paths and plenty of ups and downs. It was a testing
course on a hot day and was well supported by a variety of clubs and
local runners. 383 runners. Otmoor Challenge, Saturday 2nd June: Like last year, the race was held in very warm conditions (with temperatures nudging 24C) but conditions were soft underfoot due to heavy rain earlier in the week. Over 300 runners ran a circular route through attractive Otmoor countryside, sometimes on roads and sometimes on paths around fields which went on forever. The hill at 11 miles was as much fun as ever and several Alchester runners considered joining the local Hash House Harriers, who stopped for a pint at every pub on the way. Jon Burgess, 1:28:47 (17th) Please let Mark know what your time is, if it is not already shown here. Upper Boddington 10k, Monday 28th May: The PBs keep on coming, this time from Bridget Mold who took a hefty chunk out of her previous best 10k. Sarah Paradine, 43:08, 52nd (187 finishers) Charndon 5k, Tuesday 22nd May: Our runners did us proud, as always, with good performances right through the field at one of our own races. Many congratulations to all who took part, especially to Ray Clench, who taught us all a thing or two about a what a life of running really is, and to Angela Banks for a new club record. And a hearty round of applause to those who put so much into organising a most successful race, and who helped to make the event run smoothly. Nigel Marley, 16:49, SM, 13th 206 finishers. Full results here. (Please let know if any of these times should be recorded as PBs.) Redditch Sprint Triathlon, Sunday 20th May: Many congratulations to Hester Pollock, whose splendid performance enabled her to qualify for the World Triathlon Sprint Distance Championships in Hamburg in September 2007. Hester Pollock, 1:16:27 (2nd in age group) Oxford Town and Gown 10k, Sunday 20th May: Last year's torrential rain was replaced by warm sunshine. A revised course helped reduce congestion and remove some bottlenecks, and this helped the club squad to put in good performances today. Many thanks to the large number of club members who also turned out to help with the marshalling - members appreciated the extra support and the friendly faces. Nigel Marley, 34:35, 14th 2742 finishers. Tewkesbury Half Marathon, Sunday 13th May: Richard Darley represented the club at this increasingly popular half marathon and took advantage of the reasonably flat course and (mostly) decent conditions to secure a strong new PB. Congratulations to Richard. Richard Darley, 1.33.13, PB by 1min. Silverstone 10k, Tuesday 8th May: As always, conditions were wild and windy at Silverstone, but at least there was no hail this time! Well done to the two Alchester runners who braved the conditions. Tom Bailey, 52.49, 661st Great Weston 5, Monday 7th May: Another large turn out as 21 Alchester runners took on the Great Weston 5, near Sulgrave, Northamptonshire. Conditions were near perfect for running, if you like drizzle that is. Road and hard farm track, which got a bit slippery at 3 miles, and that lovely hill to finish - some people will tell you differently. Well done to Sarah Paradine on finishing as 3rd lady. Great runs from Laurie and Nigel Trinder. Two performances of particular note go to Bridget Mold and Chris Faulkes who made significant improvements on their previous 5 mile times - Well done!! 280 finishers. Laurie Lee, 31:13, 11th Great Anglia 10k Run, Sunday May 6th: The course was flat but Alan had to run into a headwind which was particularly strong between 3-4k. It was a single lap course that combined running through the shopping centre and out into a bit of countryside. Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson was racing and won the womens wheelchair in 34 mins (her 2nd to last competitive race). 1,509 runners. Alan Smith 39:36, 77th overall - PB Charlton-on-Otmoor - Mota-vation, Thursday 3rd May: On a cool sunny evening perfect conditions for running, 30 Alchester runners took to the roads surrounding the village of Charlton-on-Otmoor to compete in the first Mota-vation race of 2007 This was a record turnout for this event taking up nearly 10% of the field. This has again been noted by other clubs that were there on the night. This was also a club Road Race Championship event as well as a Grand Prix race. Some great performances, particularly from Richard Gould, Laurie Lee, Helen Roper, Sarah Rendell and Bridget Mold. However, performance of the day goes to Jackie Hucker - she has shown great improvements over the last few months and deserves credit for her first run for the club. Well done Jackie. 331 runners Richard Gould, 23:32, 36th The clue is in the title. Chris and Edwina Colclough travelled to Nottinghamshire to take on this hilly course. Despite the lack of hills in training, Edwina crossed the line as second lady, and first under VL35, a fantastic result. Chris managed a pb, his previous best being set the Wellingborough MT race, finishing 23rd over all. Well done. Chris Colclough 47:18 23rd overall PB Blenheim 7k, Sunday 29th April: Steve Woodus and Alison Rivers took on the undulations of grounds of Blenheim Palace on a fine day with a cool breeze, making conditions perfect. Steve managed to pick up a spot prize of a bottle of wine (hope it was Rothchilds) Steve Woodus 32:36 Hawkshead Pumafox 15k Trail Race, Saturday 28th April: Warm and sunny conditions for the race from Hawkshead village in the glorious Lake District, taking in the trails over the hills along Windemere. This very hilly course attracted over 500 racers, 300 challenge runners and walkers to compete in this tough event that included the notorious Coffin Trail. 512 racers. Winner Steve Vernon (UK XC Champion) 55:13. Mark Sandford 1:38:38 321st Flora London Marathon, Sunday 22nd April: 14 Alchester athletes took on the challenge of London this year, part of a huge field of over 36,000 runners which bravely took to the streets of London, where temperatures reached a brutal 25 degrees. A huge well done to everyone for great performances in these very challenging conditions. A big thank you also to Gary Warland who organised the coach to take runners and supporters to the start. The encouragement of the support team around the course was much appreciated. An excellent debut for the club by Angela Banks and yet another age group record for Hazel Howard, but well done to all participants. Just remember that you all beat the great Haile Gebrselassie! Angela Banks 3:31:57 (debut run for the club) County Road Relays, Hook Norton, Sunday 15th April: On a remarkably hot day for April, the Oxfordshire Road Relays took
place over an undulating 3.25 mile course. Another huge turnout from
the Club with many supporters as well. Stanwick 10k , Monday 9th April 2007: Alan Smith set aside his Easter eggs to represent Alchester at this relatively new race, set in rural Northamptonshire. Despite a hillier than expected course, he still set a new PB by breaking the sub-40 minute barrier for the first time. Congratulations to Alan for a superb performance. Nigel Marley, running for Kettering, also continued his impressive form to finish in second place overall, crossing the line in 34:23. Alan Smith: 39:49, PB (7th place V40, 28th overall) Maidenhead Easter 10 mile - Friday 6th April 2007: Nick Cherry and Mark Sandford ventured to Maidenhead for this Good Friday event. Weather was warm and sunny. A fast, flat course that seemed to suit both runners as a brace of PBs was the result. The things you have to do to justify eating an easter egg! 970 runners. Won by Phil Wilks of Belgrave Harriers in 49:21 Mark Sandford 72:09 PB by 1:50 (244th) White Horse Half Marathon, Sunday 1st April 2007: Another sizeable turnout today (other clubs are noticing!) for one of the most popular races of the year in Oxfordshire. The result was no less than two new club records and another crop of PBs, some by hefty margins. Also, some very encouraging feedback for us all from the Race Director: "I was impressed by the huge turnout of Alchester runners who were once again the best represented club this year. If there was a prize for the best team spirit then Alchester would surely win it as it is a common sight to see a large group of cheerful Alchester runners at all the races." Conditions were good apart from the strong wind in the opening and closing stages. Nigel Marley led the way with an impressive performance but there was much to celebrate right through the field. Liz, Helen and Edwina rounded off a good race for the club by achieving 3rd Ladies team in both Open and County Championships categories. Nigel Marley 1:15:14 PB (Club Record, 2nd place overall) Asics Reading Half Marathon, Sunday 18th March 2007: The conditions were cool, overcast and dry for the 14,000 runners who took part in a well-organised race, on flattish roads with very tight corners through the middle of Reading. There was the usual excellent finish in the Madejski Stadium, where thousands of people gathered to welcome the runners home. Jon Burgess 1:23:45 - New V50 Club Record Carterton 10k, Sunday 18th March 2007: Laurie Lee, Alan Smith and Mark Sandford traveled to Carterton for this low-key 10k race.. Weather was overcast with a chilling wind, making conditions slightly less than ideal. A two lap, gently undulating course from the town's leisure centre seemed to suit all three, however, as each runner managed a PB. Laurie out in a fantastic run, breaking the 40 minute barrier, with Alan just missing out. 300 runners: Laurie Lee 39:15 PB by 1:50 Adidas London Half Marathon, Silverstone, Sunday 18th March 2007: Silverstone circuit is exposed at the best of times, but with gale force winds and a hailstorm, conditions were horrendous for the field of over 6,000 runners. New York Marathon and Great North Run winner Hendrick Ramala had expected to run sub 1:02:00, but conditions were so bad he ended up winning in 1:06:53. British international Liz Yelling took the ladies title in 1:14:34. As always, there was faultless organisation from the London Marathon team. For Alchester, a very strong run from Liz, and good to see a return to racing for Emma after a lengthy injury. Many thanks to members who earned cash for club funds by marshalling. Graham Grieve 1:31:32 PB (296th) Rome Marathon , Sunday 18th March 2007: Hopefully, Andi and Nigel had better weather in Rome than their clubmates had at Silverstone! Andy came very close to the magic 3-hour marathon mark, and Nigel Trinder made a very impressive debut at this distance. Congratulations to both. Andy Hucker, 3:01:34 Nike Milton Keynes Half Marathon, Sunday 11th March 2007: Fine and sunny conditions, marred only by a gusty wind. 2039 finishers. Catherine McDonnell 1:53:32 (987th) Essential Sports Banbury 15, Sunday 11th March 2007: 21 runners represented a record Club turnout for this
event. The sun came out, but a strong wind and many undulations made
for a tough day. Despite this, we still had a healthy crop of PBs. Jon Burgess 1.38.37 PB (24th) 380 finishers. Full provisional race results here. Richard Gould has kindly provided a set of photographs which can be seen here. Drayton (Banbury) Cross-Country (Oxford Mail XC League), Sunday 4th March 2007: The final XC race of the season was run in diabolical conditions, but everyone had a great time (well, sort of). Congratulations to Rachael Elliott for her fantastic second place overall in the senior ladies championship, although she didn’t run today. Excellent final placings too for Helen (7th overall) and Edwina (9th overall); and Jon, who finished 4th overall in the Vet 50 category. Final team placings were 20th out of 28 teams in Division 2 for the ladies; and 3rd out of 18 teams in Division 3 for the men. Thanks to everyone who ran for making the series such a success. Ladies (105 finished) Helen Roper 27.26 (55th) Men (205 finished) Richard Gould 40.19 (52nd) The Terminator (approx. 10 miles, multi-terrain), Sunday 25th February 2007: Very muddy down in Pewsey, we hear, but that didn't stop some excellent performances on the challenging course, led by Sarah Paradine. 740 finishers. Sarah Paradine: 1:37:33, 91st (3rd Female Vet 35) Bourton-on-the-Water Goldsmiths 10k , Sunday 25th February 2007: Richard Darley: 40:20, 128th 458 finishers. Goring 10k, Sunday 25th February 2007: A well organised, enjoyable race with a challenging
scenic course, somewhat hilly and with a couple of 'cross country' sections.
The start and end was crowded, with 983 runners finishing: Intercounties XC, Wollaton Park, Nottingham - Saturday 24 February 2007: Nine runners are selected annually from each county
to run in the highly competitive intercounties cross country championships
held at Wollaton Park in Nottingham. Tougher than normal conditions
were experienced owing to heavy rain in the preceding days before the
race. Two Alchester runners were selected to run for their respective
counties: Rachael Elliott for Oxfordshire in the senior ladies race
(8km) and Nigel Marley for Northamptonshire in the senior mens race
(12km): Hardwick X-Stream 6 mile, Sunday 18th February 2007: Mud, streams, ditches, stiles and more made for a challenging but enjoyable cross country event at Hardwick near Aylesbury! Well done to Sarah Paradine for being the first lady home in 26th overall and Paul Tilleard finishing 3rd MV50 and 22nd overall. There were 186 finishers. Paul Tilleard (MV50 3rd) 42:58, 22nd Wellingborough Multiterrain 10k - Sunday 11th February 2007: A number of Alchester runners travelled to Wellingborough for the 10K race, which forms part of the club's multiterrain championship. Ideal conditions on the course, and some great performances all round. 129 finishers. Jon Burgess, 39:13, 4th Wokingham Half Marathon - Sunday 11th February 2007: A highly impressive set of results from Wokingham where our runners prospered on a fast, flat route with ideal conditions. Another crop of new PBs too, some by colossal margins! 1679 finishers. Andi Hucker, 1:23:50 (pb by 1 min 39 secs), 90th Cold and crisp yet sunny conditions greeted runners at the fourth meet of the Oxford Mail league at Cirencester Park. The ground was firmer than on previous occasions, but this was more than compensated for by rough terrain and the steep hill greeting runners at the end of each lap. Strong team performances by both the ladies and the mens teams, with excellent individual runs by Nigel Marley and Rachael Elliott. The ladies course was 2 laps (c.6k) and the men's course 3 laps (c.9k). Ladies Race Rachael Elliott, 26:10, 8th Mens Race Nigel Marley, 33:16, 4th Full race results at http://www.oxonxc.org/ Rachael Elliott has put up pictures, mainly of the men's
race, on her Flickr site (Link).

them to Rachael to put up on the website.
Last Friday of the Month 5k (Hyde Park, London),
Friday 26th January 2007: Mark Sandford and Rachael Elliott trekked to Hyde Park
in London to run this month's 5k in wintry yet sunny conditions. Good
results for both with Mark knocking nearly three minutes off his PB
and Rachael finishing first senior lady. 176 finishers. Rachael Elliott: 19:30, 40th (1st SL); PB by 5 secs Wendover Multi-Terrain 5, Sunday 14th January
2007: A strong Alchester turnout for this 5 mile race on mixed
terrain set in the heart of the Chiltern Hills and Wendover Woods. A
bright winter morning produced perfect racing conditions. Particular
congratulations to Jon Burgess and Paul Tilleard who finished second
and third respectively in the "Senior Vet" category. 297 finishers. Jon Burgess: 34:41, 15th (2nd SV) Rough 'n' Tumble, Sunday 14th January 2007: Sarah Paradine and Mark Clay took on the thigh-busting
climbs and eye-watering descents of Fyfield Down in Wiltshire. After
several weeks of heavy rain the weather relented and the 10.4 mile course
was bathed in winter sunshine. And mud. No PB course this, but definitely
"an experience" to be recommended. Sarah performed magnificently
to be first woman home, and an impressive 48th overall. Sarah Paradine, 1:22:56 (1st woman, 1st Female Vet,
48th out of 476) Woodcote & Goring 10k, Sunday 7th January
2007: An early opportunity for some of our runners to open
their race account for the New Year and see what damage all those mince
pies have done to their times! Happily the forecast rain didn't materialise
but this testing course still lived up to its reputation as one of the
toughest 10ks out there. Richard Darley led the squad home. Huge congratulations
to Emma Ashwell, Marion Harris and Julie Trinder on their club debut
races, and to Sarah Thomas who conquered the terrain on her return from
injury. Keith Jones and Geoff Hanks both produced good runs too: Richard Darley: 44:20 Oxon XC Championships, Sunday 7th January 2007: Rachael Elliott put in a typically committed performance
in tough conditions at the county championships, completing the 6km
course around Shotover Park in a terrific 27:37. Sadly she missed out
on a thoroughly-deserved automatic qualification for the CAU championships
(in February) by one place, but this was a brilliant performance nonetheless.
Well done Rachael! Rachael Elliott: 27:37 (7th) Gloucester 10mile Road Race, Sunday 7th January
2007: 266 runners took on this undulating course on quiet
country roads around the villages of Epney, Longney and Hardwicke in
the scenic Severn valley. Wet and blustery conditions made the course
more challenging but even so Mark Sandford achieved a huge new PB. Mark Sandford: 01:13:51 (88th) PB by 7 minutes | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
