RICHARD GOULD 22:50 SM 22nd Shakespeare Marathon - Sunday 27th April: Well done to Michael Stuart for a great time in his first marathon. Michael Stuart 3:35 (debut) Lochaber Marathon - Sunday 27th: With warm weather on this flat course in the highlands should have proved great conditions for marathon running - sadly this was not the case for Mark. Blue skies and picturesque surroundings of Loch Eil and sights of a snow capped Ben Nevis to finish - a great location for this well organised marathon - 394 finishers Mark Sandford 4:45:14 Oxon County Road Relays - Hook Norton - Sunday 20th April: A chilly foggy April morning, greated the runners for this popular relay event. Ladies run as teams of 3 and Mens have teams of 6. The ladies fielded 3 teams, but a return match of Seniors vs Vets in the mens races, was not possible as the Seniors were not able to field a full team - possibly not wanting to be upstaged again. Great runs from several of the men's team finished in a respectable 6th place in a strong vets field. However the laides again managed a successful day and for the third year in a row finished with a well deserved prize. Third place in the Senior Ladies competition, went to Sarah Rendell, Julie Bennett and Liz Grolimund - very well done. All I think had a good time in this team event over a challenging 3.3 mile course. Individuals in the full and partial teams, your runs will be orderd count in the Grand Prix. Team and individual results will be posted when available. Flora London Marathon - Sunday 13th April: Cooler, and wetter conditions greated those club members taking on the challenge of the streets of London this year. Some notable performances from club members, and yet again the ladies put in the performances of the day with Liz Grolimund running sub-3:30 and Angela Banks running close to her time last year, coming back from an injury late in training. Debut performances from Steve Woodus, Elaine Shipperly, Suzie Ciechan, Helen Lambourne and Alison Rivers. Although not running for the club, Nigel Marley finished in a time of 2:36, a fantastic run! Very well done to all runners. A huge crop of PBs, and congratulations to Richard Gould in finishing 8th overall and to Andi Hucker for a club record. Thanks for the support out on the course, Keith, who was marshaling and Chris Colclough, this was very welcome. A number of prizes - The mens team of Richard Gould, Andi Hucker, Jon Burgess and Nigel Trinder were third overall. In the County Championship, the mens team of Richard Gould, Andi Hucker, Jon Burgess and Laurie Lee got silver, Andi Hucker got V40 silver and Jon Burgess got V50 silver. Well done to all. The scenic but hilly course was no match for Nigel Marley, who achieved an outstanding 2nd place overall. Congratulations also to Jon Burgess who finished 3rd V50. The Mens team gained 3rd place (Nigel Marley, Jon Burgess, Andi Hucker and Gary Clench ) while the Ladies gained 2nd place (Liz Grolimund, Helen Roper and Edwina Colclough), only narrowly missing out on first place to Banbury. There was also the usual clutch of PBs. (Please let Mark Sandford or Mark Clay know if we've missed yours!) Nigel Marley, 1:25:06, SM, 2nd overall 294 finishers. Silverstone Half Marathon, Sunday 9th March: Congratulations to all who took part, and warmest thanks to those who marshalled. Further details will appear here when we have them. Gloucester 20, Sunday 9th March: Bridget Mold, 3:17:03 Oxford Mail XC, Race 5: Horspath - Sunday 2nd March: What a fantastic finish to the Oxford Mail XC season! In the mens race, Matt Almond romped home yet again to his second win in succession, with Nigel Marley not far behind in 5th. With great runs from Richard Gould, Laurie Lee , Andy Beaumont, Gary Warland and Gordon Newton, the A team more than held their position in the final league tables. Great performances from the ladies too, with Angela, Sarah and Wendy gaining an excellent 8th overall for the ladies A team. The final league standings show that Nigel Marley gained a brilliant equal 2nd place in the Senior Men section, while Angela Banks was an equally brilliant second V2 for the ladies. Congratulations to both of you, you are a real credit to the club! Many thanks to all who figure in the final rankings: you have turned up to at least 4 of the races and have helped put Alchester well and truly on the map! Ladies Race (107 ran) Division 2 Final Position after 5 races: 8th out of 21 teams 24 Angela Banks V2 Overall 2nd Ladies V2 category Mens Race (194 ran) 1 Mathew Almond S Liz Grolimond, 01:33:03 PB Bourton on the Water 10k - Sunday 24th February: "Anyone looking for a 10K PB should give this some serious consideration!" says Tom Bailey. "This is an incredibly fast course in my opinion quicker even than Eynsham or Silverstone! Its also a beautifully scenic race round the chocolate box village of Bourton on the Water and great for spectators as there are no less than four circuits of the village, interspersed with a 6K out and back into the countryside. My little daughter (3 years old) loved it! The race was won by Dan Robinson in an outrageous 29.21! Due to the nature of the course it was possible to spot him on a couple of occasions awesome! On a personal note and given my disastrous start to the year I was over the moon with my time! I shall be back next year to break into the 40s!!" Tom Bailey, 54:59 Winslow 10k - Sunday 24th February: Andi Hucker 39.18 (15th) Goring 10k - Sunday 24th February: Donna Newton, 55:48 - PB Muscular Dystrophy Bury Nearly Ten (9 miles 703 yards), Sunday 24th February: Mild but windy weather made the undulating course through the scenic West Suffolk countryside a challenging but enjoyable run. Emily Sparrow, 1:28:59, 165th 232 finishers Plymouth Hoe 10 - Sunday 17th February: Crisp, cold, windy and hilly! Helen Roper, 1:16:25 PB by 5 mins Hardwick X-Stream, 17th February 2008: What must be an horrendously slimy and slippery course in wet conditions turned out to be quite a pleasant trot round Buckinghamshires fields in excellent sunny conditions, although the deep, water-filled ditches helped to concentrate the mind wonderfully. 25 Jon Burgess V2) 39.16 Meon Vally Plod - 20 Miles (ish) - Sunday 17th February: "What can I say?", says Steve Woodus. "Hills, bigger hills and even more bigger steeper hills! As a first timer, it felt like I had gone to hell and back. I never knew I could hurt in so many places! Other than that, it was a fantastic day with lots of fruit cake, jelly babies, Mars bars, coffee, tea, soup - even a man at the end jet-washing your shoes. Nigel Lambert got star treatment: a young lady took his trainers off for him!" Steve Woodus, 03:17:34, 110th Great East Run 20k, Sunday 17 February 2008: Mark Clay highly recommends this very well organised and very scenic event for those who fancy a crack at this unusual distance. And if that wasn't reason enough, the goodie bag includes bottles of beer. Oxford's Dan Merckel came second. Mark Clay, SM, 1:29:28, 114th (542 finishers). Stamford Striders St Valentine's 30k, Sunday 10 February 2008: Bridget Mold, 3:11:28 Wokingham Half Marathon, Sunday 10 February 2008: Well done to all those who raced at Wokingham. On a fairly flat course, built for speed, Gary Warland, Chris Foulkes and Emily Sparrow all produced PBs - Chris and Emily by sizable margins. Jon Burgess, Gary Warland and Gary Clench all finished in under 90 minutes. Well done! Jon Burgess, V50, 1:24:02, 30th 1997 finishers. Wendover Multi-terrain (5 miles), Sunday 20 January 2008: Well done to the whole squad for taking part in this tough event, with special congratulations to Nigel Marley on his first place. Positions given are overall. Nigel Marley, SM, 29:22, 1st 295 finishers. Full results from Just Racing UK are here. Rough and Tumble (10.4 miles), Sunday 13 January 2008: Two hardy Alchester runners joined a field over 500 to take on the many challenges of this increasingly popular multi-terrain event in the beautiful, but seriously undulating, Vale of Pewsey in Wiltshire. As if the morale-sapping hills and eye-watering descents weren't enough, strong winds and plenty of deep mud made for a tough day's racing. But at least the cakes at the end were of their now legendary high quality. This race is highly recommended for blowing away the Christmas and New Year cobwebs. Mark Clay, SM, 1:31:42, 113th 524 runners. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
