Hooky Christmas Canter, Sunday 21st December

We slipped, slid and slipped again – and that was just the drive to the venue! Well done to the 11 hardy runners from Alchester who braved the freezing, snowy conditions for this very enjoyable race. It was worth it just for the post-race mulled wine and mince pie.

Mud, mud glorious mud!! Even Gary Warland, known for keeping his kit clean in races whilst those around him fail,
came away with his fair share of Culham mud. It couldn't be avoided and most of it came home on the Gould and Hunter children! Despite the under foot conditions some great performances with full teams represented in both male and female races.
Well done everyone

Endurance Life 7x7x7 Coastal Series, Event Two, Gower, Wales, Saturday 5th December

Stage 2 of the coastal series took Steve to the Gower and more sand ,cliffs, slippery boggy mud, steps, forestry, wind, rain.and the worms head. If this was not tough enough the distance was 27.4 miles.
One lesson learned, puddles come in all depths,Steve's lesson was the hard way knee deep in mud digging around for his trainer.
Well done Steve, onto number three!

Oxford Mail Cross Country Race 1, Ascott-under Wychwood, Sunday 1st November

The wind blew and the rain fell over the fields as the first cross country of the season got under way.
For those of us lucky enough to be there for the children’s races or poor Jon putting up the Alchester tent, conditions were more than suitable for the event!!
Fortunately as the ladies got under way the rain stopped and although still blowy it remained dry until the men had finished.
Well done everyone on a great start to the season.

As part of our 10th anniversary year a strong Alchester team travelled to the Lake District to take part in what turned out to be
a tough, extremely undulating course normally favoured by fell runners!
The rain fell and the wind blew in gusts reported to be close to 60 mph. However all our members put in excellent performances and manoeuvred their way round the course like a herd of mountain goats!

Otmoor Challenge Half Marathon, Sunday 6th June

On a wet day 22 Alchester members turned out to run at Otmoor, this turned out to be the largest number of club members for the last three years!! The conditions were not the normal for Otmoor with rainy skies replacing bright blue ones and the conditions under foot being muddy and slippy in the field sections of the race.Alchester performed brilliantly and gained excellent results. The competiton for the muddiest runner proved more difficult to decide with a few members succumbing to the mud!! As well as individual performances we placed second overall in the ladies team placings and placed two men's teams in the men and mixed team standings, one in fourth position and one in eighth.Well done everybody, team spirit was second to none as normal!!

Further north the weather conditions were much kinder until about 23 miles when the Town and Gown weather
arrived. The course however was not as kind, described by the organizers at the start of the race as extremely undulating
but stunningly beautiful it certainly lived up to its reputation. Our one Alchester member tried to take in the scenery
but it became increasingly difficult. However,to finish this course leaves you feeling great and full of achievement.

It is great to see Mrs Trinder racing again and I'm sure she loved every minute of it!!
Well done to Natalie on her debut 10k race for the club, it wasn't that long ago and 6 miles seemed like a long way.

Marwell Zoo 10k, Sunday 22nd March

Mother's Day.Looking forward to a relaxing day at home. Not in my family.Instead we travelled to
Marwell Zoo just ouside Winchester. The children did the fun run and did have fun,I tackled the
very undulating 10k course and probably did not have as much fun. However the day was brilliant
and entry to the race gives entry to the zoo.The sun was shining and I would reccomend this race
to anybody who wants a good trainig 10k and to families who want a brilliant day out!!

Banbury 15, Sunday 8th March 2009

A brilliant start to our road race season with 20 Alchester members turning out for the tough Banbury course which ended up being a race of two halves as far as the weather was concerned. A sunny but blustery start quickly turned into a freezing, wet and very windy finish. Some brilliant performances, with PBs, great positions and new runners to the Banbury course.
Well done to you all, especially Kate Hutchins in her debut race for the club, finishing in a great time.
