Wendover Woods 5 mile Hill Race Race, 18th December 2005:
A testing run in the Chiltern Hills with three demanding hill climbson the course. Cold but dry weather conditions and quite good underfoot. One hundred and eighty one runners competing in the event. Magnificent run by Piers V. who finished in 3rd place overall. Sarah Heath (36:57) won the veteran lady’s award and Claire B. ran really well to clock under forty minutes.

Enslow Quarry, Bletchingdon (Oxford Mail League) Cross-Country Race, 4th December 2005:
A difficult race technically, with heavy, muddy and boggy conditions and a twisty, undulating course including a number of short, sharp climbs. At least the weather was dry! Tina C. had one of her best runs of the season. Jon B. found the conditions to his liking as he was our best finisher in the men’s event ahead of Gary W. Welcome return for Vince D. to Club colours and good to see Brian P. taking part in his first cross-country of the season. Thanks to all who took part in such difficult conditions. The Ladies Race was 3.6 miles and the Men’s Race 5.6 miles ( They seemed much,much longer!!!! ). The Ladies’ Team finished 11th out of 32 teams in Division 2. The Men’s Team finished 4th out of 16 teams in Division 3.

Eynsham 10km Road Race, 27th November 2005:
The final race in the Oxfordshire Road Race Grand Prix Series 2005.This race was the fourteenth round of the competition and attracted 524 runners. A flat, fast course around the streets of Eynsham in cool and cloudy conditions. Jenny P. was crowned Ladies Champion of the Series, retaining her title and finishing well clear of her nearest rivals. The Ladies Team achieved their best ever placing finishing an excellent second overall and the men a creditable fourth out of the twenty one Oxfordshire Clubs eligiable to compete. Piers V. had a fantastic run as did Claire B. Wendy H. took a minute off her p.b. The Ladies Team gained silver in the County Championship 10km event. Well done to all concerned.

Ascott-under-Wychwood (Oxford Mail League) Cross-Country Race, 6th November 2005:
What a day! Heavy rain, strong winds and mud! (Not to mention the water hazard.) Strangely enjoyable once you had excepted the fact that it wasn’t going to be at all easy! Plucky performances from all the athletes who turned up. Great Ladies team performance in the conditions with Liz D., Tina C., Wendy H. and Deirdre B. all running to the limit. Jon B. produced a strong run and Matt L. was delighted to finish so well up the field. Nigel L. out sprinted Ken V. at the finish in a titanic battle. Thanks to all who took part in such difficult conditions. The Ladies Race was 2.6 miles and the Men’s Race 5.4 miles ( They seemed longer!!!! ). The Ladies’ Team finished 5th out of 32 teams in Division 2. The Men’s Team finished 6th out of 19 teams in Division 3.

Oxfordshire’s only marathon with over 680 competitors. Flat course and ideal conditions for the runners. Some fantastic performances by our runners with a number running to their limit to smash existing personal best performances. Jon B. took over ten minutes off his previous best to run under three hours for the first time and to win the veteran men’s over 50 years age category. Matt L. edged closer to three and half hours taking five minutes off his previous best. Wendy H. and Tom D. encouraged each other round with Wendy taking thirteen mintes off her best time and Tom completing his first marathon. Well done to all our runners!

A good day for our athletes with loads of p.b. performances and great conditions. There were 189 finishers. A flat, fast course. This race was the twelth round of the Oxfordshire Road Race Grand Prix Series 2005 and an Alchester Running Club Road Race Championship event. Another great result for Club ladies with Jenny P. winning the Ladies event, retaining her Senior Ladies County Championship title and gaining a p.b. by thirty seconds; Wendy H. who raced to third place in the Senior Ladies County Championship and gained well deserved p.b. by three minutes and Tina C. returning to something like her previous form, with all three combining to win the Ladies County Championship Team title. New p.b performances for Lucy T., Andi H., Garin W., Matt L., and Steve H. Well done to all concerned.

A fantastic effort by Club athletes who easily made up the largest Club representation at the event with only a disappointing 83 finishers. A flat windy course making running conditions difficult for those competing. Many of our athletes turned out in varying degrees of fitness to represent the Club. A huge thanks to those who were able to take part. This race was the eleventh round of the Oxfordshire Road Race Grand Prix 2005 and an Alchester Running Club Road Race Championship event. Seventeen athletes represented the Club at the event. Great result for Club ladies with Jenny P. maintaining her challenge for County Grand Prix points winning the Ladies event and gaining a p.b., Wendy H. who raced to the limit for a well deserved p.b. and Tina C. returning to something like her previous form, with the three combining to win the Ladies Team race. This race was the ninth round of the Oxfordshire Road Race Grand Prix 2005 and an Alchester Running Club Road Race Championship event. Thirteen athletes represented the Club at the race. The course was undulating ( a kind way to describe it! ). The weather was cool, damp and cloudy. Jenny P. won the the ladies race in an incredible 63:56 which made her Oxfordshire County Senior Ladies Champion and gave her a p.b. by nearly a minute and a half. Nigel L. was second male vet over 60 years in the County Championships. Jon B. and Gary C. both picked up bronze County Championship medals at the event. The men’s team ( Jon B., Gary C., Pete C. & Andrew W. ) secured a silver medal in the Championship. ( Bit of a surprise! ) Matt L. produced another strong run and Wendy H. and Tom D. achieved personal bests. Well done to all concerned. There were 180 finishers at the event.

This race was the sixth round in the Alchester Road Race Club Championship 2005 and an Oxfordshire Road Race Grand Prix event. A smaller turn out of Club members than usual contested a hilly course in very warm weather conditions. Jenny P. ran a brave race to win the ladies race despite a fall across theline. Tina C. won the 2nd Senior Ladies award and went home to build a trophy cabinet. Wendy H. completed the ladies team who also scooped the Ist Ladies Team Award. This race was the fifth round of the Oxfordshire Road Race Grand Prix 2005 and an Alchester Running Club Road Race Championship event. A record of thirty six athletes represented the Club at the event. Great to see so many Club members competing and it begins to make the Club Championship interesting reading and quite competitive! Good weather conditions and a slightly undulating course. Great result for Club ladies with Jenny P. returning to form to win a titanic tussle with Claire B. and both to secure first and second places in the women’s race!!! Angela M. got a p.b. to add valuable support in the ladies team event. Gary C. and Jon B. produced strong runs and many personal bests for the distance by others competing.The Ladies team were provisionally ranked first in the Grand Prix Championship ahead of Headington and Witney and second in the open race where there was a different scoring method. The men’s team also scored their best points total of the competition.Well done to all concerned. There were 754 finishers at the event.

This race was the fourth round in the Alchester Road Race Club Championship 2005. Another encouraging turn out of Club members who contested an undulating course in good weather conditions. Jon B. produced another excellent run to pip Gary C. at the finish. Good contest between first eight Alchester men home who all finished within two minutes of each other. Ray C. was inspired again as he finished strongly with a sprint and under 50 minutes!!! Alchester ladies produced another good team performance to finish as third team whilst the men finished sixth. A number of personal bests on a difficult course. Some 379 runners completed the race.

This race was the final round in the Club’s Multi-terrain Championship 2004-2005. Cool and windy conditions with a difficult running surface in places didn’t help times! Strong run from Gary C. who finished as the first Alchester runner home. Personal bests for the distance from Jo P. and Martin W. Good to see Daniel R., Brian P. and Steve M. making a return to the racing scene. Run of the day from Ray C. at 78 years. Where were you youngsters? There were 320 runners who completed the course.

Jenny P. rubbed shoulders with the women’s elite in at the England women’s Marathon Championship start but didn’t quite have the confidence to keep pace with Paula R.!! Sunny day and many complained of the heat affecting their performance. Marathon debuts for James M., Liz D., Wendy H., Lucy T., and Chris E. Well done to all those who took part. ‘Tough Guy Challenge 2005’:
Fantasic run by Piers Vallance at this 9 mile event near Wolverhampton. Long multi-terrain run with hills,woods and streams followed by ‘army style’ assault course including tunnels,mud,walls and other obstacles. Congratulations to Annette Bruce who was running her first cross-country for the Club finishing 65th in a time of 38:25 in a very competitive field of over three hundred women in the Ladies 6 mile event, our best ever placing. A great day out with teams in the men’s amnd women’s races. Hazel H thought the course one of the hardest she had ever tackled, plenty of mud and long hills!

Excellent race for the Club with Piers V. winning the event. New recruit to the ranks, Jon B. was winner of the V50 Men’s title (He had never raced under the half marathon distance before!) with Pete C. finishing second in that category. Great run by Claire B. returning from injury to finish second lady. Would have won the team prize if they had awarded one! (197 runners completed the event)

Eynsham 10km Road Race 28 November 2004:
This race final round of the Oxfordshire Road Race Grand Prix 2004. Jenny P. crowned as Lady’s Champion 2004having competed in all 13 rounds of the competition. Also Senior County Lady’s Champion in 5 mile, 10 km, 10 mile, Half Marathon and Marathon events 2004. Nigel L. gained the Male Vet 60 title and James P. was 3rd Male Vet 40. The Ladies team were 3rd in the County Championship. Well done Jenny P., Tina C., Jo Parkinson and Hazel H.
