Social Events

Alchester Running Club organises a range of social events throughout the year. These include summer evening social runs held at local pubs in the area. In previous years, club members have visited Dublin to compete in a race and enjoy a weekend of sight seeing and socialising along with away weekends to Coniston and Hastings.

University Parks parkrun, Oxford

Oxford University Parks parkrun Saturday 9th July

Join us on July 9th at Oxford University parkrun at "The Parks - https://www.parkrun.org.uk/universityparks. After the run we will go to a local cafe for a drink.  For those that fancy the train goes at 07:39 from Bicester Village station.  The park is just over one mile from Oxford station so a slow jog or walk will get you to the start in plenty of time.  Alternatively the bus drops you very close.

Well meet at the start from 8:45.

Social Run

Social Run - Thursday 16th June - Great Western Arms

The next social run is this Thursday at the Great Western Arms, Aynho (OX17 3BP).  The run is 6.2 miles or if you prefer there's a walk-jog option available. If anybody wants to lead this group please let us know.

If you plan to attend, please email social@alchester-runningclub.co.uk so we have a rough idea of numbers.

The run is focused on social so no pb's, just a good opportunity to run somewhere different and have a chat. The route is mixed with canal footpaths gravel tracks and a small road section.

We will be going for a drink afterwards in the pub where we have reserved an outside area.

Please car share where possible, arrive at 6.45pm for a prompt 7pm start.

Please note this will replace the usual Thursday club session.

Social Run

Social Run & Club Marathon Draw Thursday 12th May

Please note this will replace the usual Thursday night club run.

We will be running from the The Akeman Inn Kingswood HP18 0QJ. The run is approximately 6 miles mainly on road with a couple of off road sections (road shoes are fine).

These runs are very relaxed, we run in groups of similar ability and the focus is social not speed.  We will go for a drink where we make the draw for the Alchester London Marathon place.

Please let us know if you intend to join us so we have an idea of numbers. We will make a reservation with the pub so we can sit together. We are not organising food but the pub is serving so feel free to make your own arrangements on the night.

There is plenty of parking at the pub.

We will start running at 7pm prompt so please arrive at 6:50pm. Bring some spare clothes and some money for a drink.

Please let us know youre coming by emailing email social@alchester-runningclub.co.uk

July Social Run

1/7/2021

The second social run of the year will take place on Thursday 1st July in Lower Heyford. We will start running promptly at 7pm so please meet outside The Bell pub at 6.50pm so we can sort running groups.

We will run 10k on canal paths, bridleways and roads followed by drinks at the pub.

https://thebellinnlowerheyford.co.uk/find-us/

We have reserved tables in the beer garden.  If you’re interested in food please reply to this email with requests (menu attached).  You will need to place orders on the night.  Your reply is to give the pub an idea of numbers so they can stock up accordingly.

For those that haven’t been to one of our social runs before, the aim is to have a run and chat. There is no pressure on speed.

We will use the July online booking form when published, alternatively reply to social@alchester-runningclub.co.uk to confirm your booking.

Usual rules apply, please remove your name and let us know if can no longer make it.

The current weather forecast looks good but please consider old or trail shoes and bring a spare set of clothes to keep warm after!

We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 1st July at 6.50pm.

Please note there will be no official club training session from the sports centre on that evening.

June Social Run

2/6/2021

The first social event of the year will take place on Wednesday 2nd June in Fringford. We will start running promptly at 7pm so please meet on the green outside the village hall at 6.45pm so we can get people into groups and give instructions.

We will run 10k mainly off road and end up at The Butchers Arms for a drink and a catch up.

We have reserved tables outside for a group of 30. Unfortunately due to limitations of 6 we can’t use the inside of the pub as a group. We usually ask the pub to arrange food but on this occasion we aren’t so if you want to eat you will need to arrange this yourself on the night. Bring on the requests for bowls of chips!

For those that haven’t been to one of our social runs before, the aim is purely to have a gentle run and a chat. There is no pressure on speed.

The current weather forecast looks good but please consider old or trail shoes and bring a spare set of clothes to keep warm after!

There is parking at the pub and in front of the village hall.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday 2nd June at 6.45pm.
